We are very grateful to our colleagues from around the world for their concern about the earthquake. Although Fukuoka City, where most of Kyushu University’s campuses reside, is only 100 km from Kumamoto city, the epicenter, we have been spared of major damage. A few old windows broken and a few tiles falling off walls were levels of damages. We were very concerned about the Beppu city branch of the university hospital but damage there was minor also. Everything is functioning as normal in all campuses.
The university has been busy coordinating the network of national university hospitals in Kyushu and Yamaguchi prefecture to send supplies and staff to the Kumamoto University hospital. We also have researchers from engineering and sciences involved in information gathering and analysis.
